The Bengal Provincial Railway Company operated a 53.5 km (33.27 miles) long narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 762 mm (2½ feet ) in the Indian state of West Bengal . The railway company also operated the Deshghara-Jamalpurgunj Railway, branching off from the railway line, with a length of 13.4 km (8.31 miles).

history

The railway line was registered in 1890 with the Tarakeswar – Rudrani, Rudrani – Magra and Magra – Tribeni sections. The first two line sections from Tarakeswar to Magra connected two stations of the East Indian Railway with Indian broad gauge and were put into operation in 1895. The relevant regulation of the Bengal Government Railway Department was published on January 4, 1896. The line was extended to Tribeni in 1904 and removed by the Secretary of State on February 12, 1904 .

Due to increasing losses after the Second World War, the line was closed in 1956.

Locomotives

Small tank locomotives with leading axles with a 2-4-0T wheel arrangement were used on the line.

One of the two Baldwin steam locomotives, which to the War Department in India were delivered

The Baldwin locomotives No. 50788 and No. 50789 with the wheel arrangement 0-6-0 originally had a track width of 750 mm and should have been delivered to the Alapeff Mining Company in Russia, but this was not possible because of the First World War. They were therefore re-gauged by Baldwin and delivered to the War Department in India , the latter locomotive assigned to the Bengal Provincial Railway.
