The Benjakitti Park ( Thai สวน เบญจ กิ ติ , RTGS : Benchakitti) is a city park in the Khlong Toei district in the center of the Thai capital Bangkok . The rectangular park has a size of 208,000 square meters and is located north of the Queen Sirikit Convention Center near the Sukhumvit and Asok BTS station metro stations.
history
In 1991, Thailand Tobacco Monopoly (TTM) approved the conversion of their factory premises into a park. The city park was developed from a 200 × 800 meter pond area that belonged to the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly (TTM) and was cultivated through excavations. The park was part of a compensation area based on a resolution by the government under Anand Panyarachun .
Next to the Ratchada pond is the sculpture "Pathumthani".
The facility was officially opened on December 9, 2004 in honor of Queen Sirikit's 72nd birthday . They named him "Benjakitti" at the opening ceremony. Previously, from December 1st to 9th, 2004, the park was used for theatrical performances and a spectacular technology in memory of His Majesty the King "The Phra Mahathat The Phenomenal Life Show". The performance took place on a circular stage in the middle of the pond, which is the largest water stage in the country with a diameter of over 100 meters.
In 2006 Tobacco Monopoly released a 97,600 m² area to the west to build a forest park, the first of its kind in Bangkok.
structure
The park is divided into two parts: an eastern water zone and a western forest zone. A two-part, 1.8-kilometer circular path for pedestrians and joggers runs along the promenade of the lake, which has several water fountains . A separate bike path runs outside of this. Bicycles, pedal boats , row boats and canoes can be rented for use in the park .
