from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beogradska Berza (German Belgrade Stock Exchange, BELEX) is a Serbian stock exchange in Belgrade .

The exchange was founded on November 21, 1894. Stock trading began on January 2, 1895, at that time in the Hotel Bosna. Trading was suspended during World War II. In 1953 the stock exchange was closed because there was no need for stock trading in socialist Yugoslavia.

In 1989 the stock exchange was reopened as the Yugoslav capital market. After the fragmentation of Yugoslavia, it was again listed as the Belgrade stock exchange. After the start of the wave of privatization in 2001 in Serbia, the shares of the national joint-stock companies were traded here. In September 2004 the exchange was admitted to the Federation of Euro-Asian Exchanges . The exchange has four indices : BELEXline, BELEXfm, BELEX15 and SRX.
