history

At the beginning of the 1950s, the extensive skiing and hiking area on the north and east slopes of the Kitzbüheler Horn began to be developed with a private funicular to the Angerer Alm.

It was built in 1952 by "Schneider und Golser Bergbahn KG", founded by Franz Schneider, August Golser and Georg Mitterer, instead of a "sledge lift" to Windegg that was improvised around 1950.

In addition, there were new tow lifts and single chair lifts almost every year, so that by 1970/71 with the construction of the Angerer Alm-Harschbichl cable car and the opening of the Eichenhof tow lift, the Schneiderberg, Baumoos, Hirschberg, Penzing and Harschbichl areas could already be reached by lifts.

In 1975 the "Schneider und Golser KG" became the "St. Johanner Bergbahnen GmbH ”was renamed. This was followed by a number of innovations and new buildings, such as the construction of the summer toboggan run on the Rueppenhang and the construction of the Jodlalm double chairlift, before the Harschbichl single-cable gondola, the Penzing quad chairlift and the Hochfeld triple chairlift were built in 1987.

In 1989 the artificial snow system was installed on the "Angerer Alm slope" including a water reservoir in the form of an approx. 1 hectare mountain lake on the Angerer Alm and expanded in 2007 to include the Schlosserbergsee.

In December 2012 the Eichenhof lifts were taken over by the St. Johanner Bergbahnen GmbH. In 2015, snow-making was installed for the Eichenhof runs 4a and 4c.

In 2016, the Swedish SkiStar group invested in the St. Johanner Bergbahnen with a capital increase of 10 million euros and has since held 68% of the share capital.

The St. Johanner Bergbahnen GmbH now operate under the name “SkiStar St. Johann in Tirol”.

Investments

In 2017, Skistar invested 17 million euros in the development of the ski area. With an investment of 7.4 million euros, a 10-person monocable gondola up to the Grander Schupf and a 6-person chairlift up to the Eichenhof mountain station were built at Eichenhof, replacing the Eichenhof 1 and Eichenhof 2 tow lifts. The parking lot has also been enlarged.

In 2017 a new storage pond followed with a volume of approx. 50,000 m³ as well as the snow-making of the Sportiv slope 4b.
