The Berliet T100 is a heavy three-axle truck from the French manufacturer Berliet that was built in small numbers. When it was introduced at the 1957 Paris Motor Show, it was the largest truck in the world. It was designed for the transport of heavy equipment in desert regions. Olaf von Fersen writes that three vehicles were built. Francis Reyes, on the other hand, names four units. After the presentation of the first T100 in 1957, the second car is said to have been built in 1958 and the third in 1959. Apparently the T100 was also exhibited at the Chicago trade fair. In February 2019 the Berliet T100 was exhibited at the Rétromobile. Today (2019) two T100s are still preserved.

description

The Berliet T100 is approximately 12.8 m (42 ft) long, 4.9 m (16 ft) wide and 4 m (13 ft) high. The vehicle is powered by a charged 28-liter V12 diesel engine from the manufacturer Cummins. The power of the first T100 built is 600 hp (441 kW). The second built T100 has the same engine with a power of 700 hp (515 kW) at 2100 min -1 . The maximum torque is 266 kp m (2.6 kN m) at 1500 min −1 . The torque is transmitted from the engine to all six wheels via a hydrodynamic torque converter and a manually shiftable Clark R1400 FS transmission with eight gears (four gears forwards and backwards). Steering, gearshift and brakes are servo-assisted. The Berliet T100 has special rims that are 83 cm (about 33 in) in diameter. The tires, around 1 m wide, come from Michelin and have a diameter of more than 2.2 m. The two fuel tanks each hold 950 liters. Despite its size, the specific ground pressure of the vehicle is only 1 kp · cm −2 (9.8 N · cm −2 ). The T100, whose cab is designed for five people, is also equipped with a stove, refrigerator, air conditioning system and a drinking water tank. The top speed of the approx. 58.9 t heavy vehicle is around 40 km / h.

Remarks

  1. a b There are contradicting information on the engine displacement. The manufacturer Cummins specifies a displacement of 1710 in³ (28 liters) ( see manual ); Rétromobile indicates the displacement with 24.25 liters (see footnote 5); Francis Reyes writes 29.56 liters (see footnote 3); Mike Woof mentions 30 liters (see footnote 8)
