Bernhardt formula

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bernhardt formula is used to calculate the upper limit of the normal weight of adults. The body length in centimeters is multiplied by the mean chest circumference in centimeters and divided by 240. The result is given in kilograms.

It is named after the Berlin neuropathologist Martin Bernhardt (1844–1915).

example

  • Body length = 180 cm
  • Average chest circumference = 100 cm

Upper limit for normal weight = (180 × 100): 240 = 75 [kg]
