The vocational college of the Märkisches Kreis in Iserlohn (also shortened to BK Iserlohn or BKdMK ) is one of the largest schools in the Arnsberg administrative region . The school has the locations Iserlohn (main location) and Iserlohn-Letmathe .
The educational offer of the vocational college Iserlohn is based on the main idea: "Our educational diversity for your future."
This guiding principle is implemented through the training opportunities in the five specialist departments of business and administration, design, social and health services, nutrition management, and agriculture and horticulture. The educational offer includes 23 full-time school courses, part-time lessons in 21 training professions and vocational preparation measures for students without a vocational training relationship.
Since January 2015, the Iserlohn Vocational College has set up "international support classes" with the aim of teaching young adults the German language and preparing them for vocational training. From February 1, 2017, young refugees will also be taught as part of the "Fit for more" measure.
Each student acquires a double qualification: depending on the chosen course of study, either a professional qualification or professional knowledge, skills and abilities and, in addition, a general qualification from upper secondary level or I.
Secondary level II qualifications are the general university entrance qualification, the school part of the technical college entrance qualification or the technical college entrance qualification. All secondary school qualifications can be made up: These include the middle school qualification (Fachoberschulreife), the secondary school leaving certificate after grade 10, the secondary school leaving certificate. Acquiring a double qualification enables the students to prepare for a future career or study through the close interlinking of theory and practice. history
In 1832 the first “Craftsman Sunday School” was founded with 100 students and three teachers. That was the cornerstone of today's vocational college of the Märkischer Kreis in Iserlohn. From 1852 to 1872 the name of the Sunday school for craftsmen was renamed “Advanced Craftsman School” with an extended range of subjects and three classes. A training institute for commercial professions was founded in 1906 by the Iserlohn Commercial Association. In 1924 and 1925, the vocational school was born as a bundle school: the industrial and commercial advanced training school was combined with a common timetable, morning lessons on working days and full-time teachers. In 1964 the newly constructed school building was inaugurated at its current location at Hansaallee 19. The school sponsorship changed to the Märkischer Kreis in 1975 .
The building park has been continuously expanded since 1982 with additional specialist rooms, laboratories, the "Kolibri" communication center and the "Forum", which was inaugurated in 1999 as a location for major events.

In all of the specialist departments for young people that are registered with the Employment Agency, there are also classes for training preparation for students without an apprenticeship in part-time form. The assignment is made by the employment agency.
Advanced course in business administration (part-time)
- The possibility of the additional qualification "Business administration for state-certified technicians" exists in the one-year, part-time advanced course in business administration. The entry requirement is completed vocational training as a state-certified technician, engineer or foreman.
Subject classes of the dual system
- Specialized classes in the dual system are offered at the Iserlohn and Iserlohn-Letmathe school locations and in all departments with the exception of the Social and Health Services department.
- Dual degree in industry with integrated training as an industrial clerk in cooperation with BiTS Iserlohn from summer 2017. The prerequisite for this course is the Abitur or technical college entrance qualification and a corresponding training contract as an industrial clerk (Iserlohn school location).

For the long-term project “BK SCHOOL SHOPPING”, the vocational college received second prize in the competition “Vocational School Prize 2005 for the Promotion of Professional Self-Employment” on June 23, 2005 at the Iserlohn school location.

Advisory center
Since 2002 there has been a counseling center at the Iserlohn school, which is managed by a school social worker and specially trained teachers from the school. Here pupils receive professional help and support in difficult life situations.
