Investment management

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under investment management is generally understood the summary of all operational and administrative tasks that a group in the direct vicinity of his company holdings has to fulfill. The term is often used synonymously with investment controlling , although this is more of a sub-task (control task) of the administration-oriented investment management.

Often, investment management is not yet recognized as a central corporate task and so sub-tasks of investment management are carried out in an uncoordinated manner by various corporate departments. This regularly includes group bookkeeping / accounting (because of the impact on consolidation ), the board departments (because of client management), the legal departments (to fulfill reporting and because of the processing of participation agreements) and a few more.

Highly specialized software products, which in particular can map and evaluate historical changes within the investment network, take on the task of a central information pool for the addressed departments, group management and auditing. Concepts that go a little further, in addition to the mere administration of shares and the associated tasks, offer a calculation of the value contributions of individual subsidiaries. Among other things, profit and loss transfer agreements, loans granted or acquisition costs must be taken into account.

Interfaces to existing systems are of particular importance in this area - for example, it only makes sense to set up your own investment accounting in addition to group accounting if these can be automatically compared with one another. It must be possible to trace transactions (capital increases, acquisitions, sales, etc.) that are carried out in investment management using a receipt in the accounting department.

In summary, four aspects of modern investment management are to be named: The fulfillment of legal obligations, the best possible handling of daily work through suitable process support, the value-oriented management of the investment portfolio, as well as ensuring a technical and historical overall context for the various detailed information in this comprehensive area.
