history
Betsson AB was founded in 1963 under the name AB Restaurang Rouletter by Bill Lindwall and Rolf Lundström. The name was later changed to Cherryföretagen AB (Cherry). The main field of activity was the operation of slot machines in Sweden. In 1998 Cherry acquired a minority stake in Net Entertainment . It was during this time that Cherry began operating in the online gambling market. In 2005 Cherry took over the British sports betting provider Betsson. In 2006, Cherryföretagen AB, the land-based division for slot machine games, was sold to the shareholders and the group focused on online gaming was renamed Betsson AB . In 2007 NetEnt was spun off from the Betsson Group.

Betsson AB employs over 2000 people in 10 countries. These include Malta, Sweden, Great Britain, Lithuania and Hungary, among others. The headquarters are in Stockholm, but the majority of the employees work in Malta.
