Bibleserver.com is an online service from ERF Medien eV , which, in cooperation with international Bible societies and publishers, offers the Bible online in 47 modern and historical translations in 21 languages, including a German audio Bible.

history

The first version was put online in March 2002, initially only in German at www.bibelserver.de. The offer included four current translations ( Luther 1984 , Rev. Elberfelder , Hope for All , Good News Bible ).

In March 2003, a second version of the online Bible was expanded to include 23 translations in 15 languages ​​with the move to the www.bibleserver.com domain. In addition to ERF Online (the former Internet branch of ERF Medien), the cooperation between the operators also included the International Bible Society (now Biblica ), the German Bible Society and the publishing house SCM R. Brockhaus .

In November 2005 the third version of BibleServer started with an extended range of functions, after its relaunch in March 2010 BibleServer is working in the fourth version. This enables a simple link to Bible passages via URL and offers a version for mobile devices at m.bibleserver.com.

For Reformation Day 2016, the offer was supplemented by the Luther Bible 2017 in cooperation with the German Bible Society . For the Reformation Day 2017, the Luther Bible was removed in 1984.

Cooperation partners, translations and languages

Compared to other online Bibles, BibleServer is characterized above all by offering the most important current Bible translations , for example Luther 2017 , Rev. Elberfelder and the New Geneva Translation . In addition, the offer covers a wide range of Eastern European languages ​​(e.g. Czech and Romanian).

Most Bible translations on BibleServer are protected by international copyright law. They may not be downloaded, automatically read out or passed on electronically in any way.

The public domain has been taken: Vulgate , Hebrew Old Testament, the Septuagint , IBS fordítás (Új Károli) Bible Kralická and Chinese Union Version. Only the New Testament is available for individual translations . BibleServer offers the Apocrypha in four translations: King James Version, Good News Bible, Standardized Translation, Český ekumenický překlad.

Without registration

The BibleServer user interface is available in all 21 languages ​​of the translations offered and adapts to the language of the browser used by default. A suitable translation is also automatically selected to get you started. BibleServer offers the following tools, among others:

Registering at Bibleserver.com is free and offers a number of other functions, for example the creation of tags and notes, a further selection of dictionaries and options for setting the text formatting.
