Beer pressure apparatus

A beer pressure apparatus is a mechanical device which "taps" beer from beer kegs by means of gas pressure. H. transferred to drinking vessels.

The classic beer pressure apparatus consists of an overpressure air reservoir that is fed by an air compression device, a supply line that guides the compressed air into a beer barrel and a discharge line through which the drink is pressed into the tap room.

Air kettles, beer kegs and pressure generators are mostly located in the basement under the bar, the compression pumps were operated by people.

The figure shows a simple apparatus: B is an air reservoir, into which water flows from A through pipe G so that the air is compressed according to the height difference between the two vessels.

Other beer pressurizers require a water pipe to supply the compressor with energy.

Since the beer pressure equipment with only one cylinder worked periodically, equipment with two combined compression cylinders was also designed for highly frequented restaurants.

One problem with the classic construction was the cleanliness of the air, which attempts were made to improve by extending supply lines and filters. Another problem was the oxidation of the drink by the oxygen in the air, which impaired the taste, and which was solved by replacing the compressed air with pre-compressed carbon dioxide.
