Blabbermouth.net is a website that features metal and hard rock news , album and DVD reviews. Blabbermouth.net was founded by Borivoj Krgin in March 2000 and went online in October of the same year. The record label Roadrunner Records hosted it in December 2001.

Users can post comments on selected news articles and album reviews, either in response to other comments or directly to the article. Blabbermouth.net , described by the London Free Press as a "reliable industry and fan site", is a much-cited resource in the field of metal and hard rock.

history

In January or February 2000 there was a meeting in Krgin's hometown of New York between Krgin, his friend Robert Kampf (managing director of Century Media Records ) and Gunter Ford, managing director of the artist agency World Management. During the meeting, Ford suggested a “heavy metal portal,” a website that would offer news, merchandising and CD reviews to make it easier for record labels to sell their products through the website. Ford wanted combat to be part of it. Krgin didn't like the idea, he wanted a website that had 24/7 news instead, believing there were no good news sites.

Krgin started developing the website two months after the meeting. After a year he put it online . The first version of the site was launched on March 3, 2000, in October Monte Conner , a friend of Krgin's and an A&R for Roadrunner Records , persuaded him to run the site from the label's servers. In this way, Krgin could concentrate more on the content than on the technical aspects. That month, Blabbermouth.net was officially launched.

swell

According to Krgin's own statements, information about bands can be found on their official websites and band forums, in which the band members write something. He also relies on the contacts he has made over the years with band members, journalists , talent managers and other people in the music industry , that's where the "best information" comes from.

Krgin reportedly sends emails and phone calls every day to get new information. Blabbermouth.net has a “share news” feature that has been found to be helpful to Krgin. When he learns of a rumor that he thinks is worth publishing, he first contacts the band members and asks them about the rumors. It is claimed that 90% of the information is found online, or provided directly to the website by bands, managers, labels, or people involved.

criticism

Blabbermouth.net has been criticized by musicians and the music industry as a troll website and for its news that is not directly related to metal or hard rock. This was e.g. For example, articles on Gene Simmons , Tommy Lee, and Fred Durst . Krgin said he posted these articles to encourage humorous comments from users and as a relief from the constant monotony of album news. Articles appeared on Thirst, in particular, after apparently lying about the number of female celebrities he'd slept with:

“He was doing a good job of keeping himself in the press all the time. Ultimately, the media overexposure contributed to his band's diminished record sales with their most recent album, and the downward spiral is sure to carry over into the next album cycle. In the end, no one will give a shit about [whom] Fred is sleeping with or not sleeping with, and that fate, for someone like Fred Durst, will be worse than death. "

“He did a good job staying in the press all the time. Ultimately, this deal with the media meant that his band had poorer sales on their latest albums, and this downward spiral is sure to continue into the next album. In the end, no one will care anymore who Fred sleeps with or not, and that fate is worse than death for someone like Fred Durst . "

- Borivoj Krgin

Simmons responded by responding to Blabbermouth.net that it was "the reason I get up in the morning and yes, I sleep on a mattress filled with $ 100 bills." Lee replied on his blog; "If you look at the postings, you see idiotic comments from many who never drowned a child in the swimming pool" and described the users as "really shit."

In September 2006 Krgin announced that he had sorted out the comments and introduced moderation . Before that, there had been "countless abusive, obscene, defamatory, racist, homophobic and threatening" comments.
