A bober on the Elbe at high tide
A bober is a floating nautical mark that marks the fairway of a river , stream or a sea waterway . Like a fairway buoy or a simple floating rod, it is red or green, but in contrast to these it is bar-shaped. Often times, a bober is on dry land at normal water levels and only swims up during high tide. He is held in place by a chain.
