Post mill Pechau

The post mill Pechau is a post mill in the Magdeburg district of Pechau .

history

The windmill was built in 1828. A mill owner in Dessau signed a purchase agreement for the Mühlenbergfleck with the then independent municipality of Pechau and then built the mill. In the 1830s the mill was sold to the Kossaten Friedrich Fricke senior and has remained in the family ever since. The old country road from Magdeburg to Berlin passed in the immediate vicinity of the mill .

In 1896 the mill was struck by lightning and burned down. In 1897/1898 it was rebuilt by the miller Friedrich Fricke junior . His son Wilhelm Fricke took over the mill in 1911. Wilhelm Fricke later recalled that during his apprenticeship he could see 21 other windmills in the area from the mill platform; in 1928 the Pechauer mill was the last remaining system.

On December 24, 1924, the four mill wings were torn off by a storm and blown up to 75 meters to the miller's house.

In 1952, when the mill survived the First and Second World Wars without any significant damage, the company was handed over to daughter Ruth Hesse, née Fricke . However, the increasing need for repairs led to the windmill being shut down as early as 1954. In 1960 the wings were dismantled to avoid accidents. The mill fell into disrepair. In 1990, however, a storm destroyed the roof, which was already defective.

With funds from the village renewal program , the mill was restored from 1992 and taken over by Irma Wuttke, née Hesse . In 1994, the renovation was largely completed and the mill was functional again.

architecture

For the load-bearing frame of the approximately 40-ton mill, almost all of oak was used. Some of the beams have carved decorative edges. In the original state, there are small round window openings made without glazing. To enable favorable tenon connections, the corner struts were all made with curved pieces . The wingspan is 18.40 meters, the weight of the pairs of wings 1250 kg.

There is also a half-timbered barn built in the 30s of the 19th century, which was moved here in 2002. Old agricultural implements are shown there.

After the mill, the adjacent street is called Zur Mühle .
