Boring mill lathe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Boring mill lathe operators are active in mechanical industrial production.

Boring mill lathe operators mainly manufacture machine parts and vehicle parts made of steel, cast materials, non-ferrous metals and plastics on boring mills and milling machines. They drill holes of every diameter, which have to be extremely precise in terms of diameter, surface and position because they have to accommodate bearings for axles and shafts, for example. Furthermore, the boring machine lathe straightens or parallelises precast surfaces. A careful, conscientious and precise way of working is required for the activity. Workpieces up to the size of an Airbus center section or turbine rotor housing are manufactured on such machines. This profession was in demand and well paid until the 1980s. In most companies, however, they worked in piecework and in alternating shifts.

Training as a boring machine lathe operator has not been possible since January 15, 1987. It has since been renewed several times. The currently valid successor occupation is cutting machine operator .
