Example of a Boleto Bancário

Boleto Bancário , simply called Boleto (German: payment slip ), is a payment method in Brazil , regulated by the Federação Brasileira de Bancos FEBRABAN ( Brazilian Bankers Association ).

A boleto can be paid for at ATMs, branches and internet banking at any bank, post office, lottery acceptance point and some supermarkets by its due date. After the due date, it can only be paid to the issuing banks.

A boleto can only be collected by an authorized collector agent in the Brazilian territory. All Brazilian banks, post offices ( Correios ) and lottery outlets as well as some companies from the private sector have joined the system.

Open source projects such as BoletoPHP allow merchants to generate unregistered Boleto Bancários without communicating with the bank.
