Irene Brueckle

Irene Brückle (* 1960 in Berlin ) is a German restorer. She has been a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart since 2008 . She specializes in the restoration of works of art on paper. She is also the deputy chairman of the specialist group “Art History Restoration” and deputy chairwoman of the study commission “Conservation and Restoration”.

Life

Irene Brückle grew up in Germany, Nigeria and Austria. Between 1981 and 1984 she completed an apprenticeship as a bookbinder in Munich. From 1984 to 1987 she worked in the leather restoration department at the Leather Museum in Offenbach and at the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt in the restoration of works of art. In 1987 she was an exhibition restorer in Kassel. Between 1989 and 1990 she worked for the restoration of works of art on paper at the Christa Gaehde Studio in Arlington. In 1994 she wrote her bachelor thesis at Empire State University College , Buffalo in New York.

In 2007 she received her doctorate in the field of art history at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart .

From 2005 to 2008 she was head of restoration at the State Museums in Berlin. Brückle has been Professor of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art on Paper since 2008. She is also the deputy chair of the “Art History Restoration” section and the “Conservation and Restoration” study committee.
