Brauschenke , Brauschänke or Braukrug referred to a tavern , especially in the village , that was allowed to brew the beer that was served. The existing brewing right belonged to the property itself like the licensing right as so-called real right .

In the city, such an estate was also called the Bierhof .

The term has remained in the names of numerous restaurants and mostly on historical restaurant signs to this day.
