Brian Stelfreeze is an American comic book artist and painter.

Life and work

Stelfreeze, who comes from an African American family, started working in the comic industry in the 1980s. Since Stelfreeze does not draw the majority of the comic pages he designed with a pencil in the traditional way, but paints with oil or gouache , he can only be called a "draftsman" to a limited extent, but must be correctly described as a comic artist or something similar. Stelfreeze, who was one of the founders of Gaijin Studios in the early 1990s, has in the past primarily specialized in the design of comic book covers, but occasionally takes on the graphic processing of the inner workings of individual issues.

His first professional work was the science fiction series CyCops, which appeared in the 1980s. In 1992 he took on the job of cover artist for the Batman series Shadow of the Bat , written by Alan Grant , the title pages of which he designed almost without exception until 1997. Other DC series for which Stelfreeze provided cover images were Aquaman , Birds of Prey , Firestorm: The Nuclear Man , Green Lantern , Green Lantern: Mosaic , Robin and Catwoman .

In addition, he drew individual issues of the series Batman , Detective Comics , and acted as a regular draftsman for the Marvel series Domino and the comic Matador published by DCs Wildstorm-Imprint and written by Devin Grayson . In addition, there are the drawings for some one-shots such as the Batman-One-Shot Devil's Asylum .

Stelfreeze is currently working as an editor for Gauge Comics and is also responsible for the series The Ride and Gun Candy , which appear there artistically.
