Image description

In the center of the picture are two women, one, the letter writer herself, is sitting at a table. The second stands behind her in the corner and looks out the window. The letter writer's gaze is focused on her work, which she carries out with concentration. The letter writer wears a white dress with a brown blouse. The maid behind her is wearing a brown robe with small pieces of white fabric.

A large-format picture with a wide black frame hangs on the wall. It represents The Finding of Moses . Vermeer used the same image in his astronomer before . In the front part of the picture on the left a dark curtain hangs down. There is a fabric-covered chair in front of the table. There is a red tablecloth on the table where the letter writer works. The light penetrates through the window and thus illuminates the curtain in the corner and the room. In the foremost part of the painting there is something on the floor, it appears to be a notepad.
