Bronchial artery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bronchial arteries are arteries of the body circulation , which supply the bronchi and the lung parenchyma and connective tissue with nutrients and oxygen and therefore represent the vasa privata of the lungs.

The left bronchial arteries usually arise from the thoracic aorta , while the majority of the right bronchial arteries arise from the intercostobronchial trunk . There are anastomoses with branches of the pulmonary arteries .

Most of the blood in the lungs is drained through the pulmonary veins , not the bronchial veins .

Bronchial arteries are not to be confused with the pulmonary arteries , which in the pulmonary circulation transport the oxygen-poor blood from the right ventricle to the alveoli and thus serve for external respiration .
