Brown-Swiss

The Brown-Swiss cattle breed is mainly bred in North America (USA and Canada).

Brown cattle were imported from Switzerland to North America as early as the 19th and 20th centuries . In the USA, the new breed Brown-Swiss (German: Brown Swiss) with high milk yield and low milk fat content was bred from these animals.

After 1960 Brown Swiss cattle were in the breed Brown Swiss crossed into Europe, to increase their size and milk production and thus improve profitability.

In the 1980s the breed was crossed into the Danish Red Dairy Cattle .

The Brown Swiss breed has been in constant decline in North America since the 1980s. This is due to the competition from Holstein cattle , which have a higher milk yield.
