Broken rice

When broken rice is called rice , which is broken during processing.

After harvesting, rice grains are processed through various steps such as peeling, sorting and pouring. The broken grains are then sieved out. Their chemical composition corresponds to that of whole grain rice, but they have different cooking properties. Depending on the harvesting and processing methods used by the producers, the quota is up to 50% of a harvest.

Different quality grades with different proportions of broken rice are common in retail:

  • Top / premium quality with a maximum of 5% broken rice
  • Standard quality with a maximum of 15% broken rice
  • Household quality with a maximum of 25% broken rice
  • Household quality with an increased fraction of broken rice of a maximum of 40% broken rice

Pure broken rice is mostly used as animal feed , but is also suitable for human consumption.
