Buccellato

Buccellato is a typical pastry of Sicilian cuisine . The wreath-shaped cake is traditionally prepared for Christmas .

preparation

For the dough, flour, butter, sugar and a little marsala are processed into an even mass.

For the filling, dried fruits such as minced figs and sultanas, chopped and roasted almonds and nuts, dark chocolate, grated lemon peel and cinnamon are poured over with Marsala, heated and also processed into an even mass.

Then the rolled out dough is spread with the filling, rolled up, closed into a ring and notched. After baking, the cake is brushed with egg yolk, sprinkled with pistachios and decorated with candied fruits.
