history
The constituency was re-established after German reunification for the 1990 Bundestag election under the name Neuruppin - Kyritz - Wittstock - Pritzwalk - Perleberg and given the constituency number 271.
The constituency area originally consisted of the districts of Neuruppin , Kyritz and Wittstock (today essentially: Ostprignitz-Ruppin district) and the Pritzwalk and Perleberg districts (today essentially: Prignitz district).
The territorial reform carried out according to the law on the reorganization of the districts and independent cities in the state of Brandenburg of December 24, 1992 was reflected in the division of the Bundestag constituencies only in their fundamental reorganization before the Bundestag elections in 2002. Since then, the district has also belonged to the Prenzlau - Angermünde - constituency. Schwedt - Templin - Gransee belonging municipality Keller , which had come to the district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin during the district reform from the then Gransee district, to the constituency area. In addition, the constituency was expanded to include the offices of Friesack and Rhinow, which had previously belonged to the constituency of Brandenburg - Rathenow - Belzig . Since then, the constituency also had the name Prignitz - Ostprignitz-Ruppin - Havelland I and the constituency number 56.
With the dissolution of the Nauen-Land office belonging to the Oberhavel - Havelland II federal constituency in October 2003, the municipality of Retzow and the former municipality of Selbelang came to the Friesack office and thus led to an enlargement of the constituency area before the 2005 federal election. In the 2009 election, the constituency was number 57, since 2013 it was number 56. For the 2017 federal election , the city of Nauen from the constituency Oberhavel - Havelland II and the office Nennhausen from the constituency Brandenburg an der Havel - Potsdam-Mittelmark I - Havelland III also changed - Teltow-Fläming I in the constituency.
