The Bundesverband Flachglas e. V. (BF), based in Troisdorf near Bonn, is the recognized mouthpiece of the branch in the areas of lobbying / networking, standardization / technology and PR / public relations.

The association consists mainly of medium-sized companies as members and sponsoring members. Manufacturers and distributors of all types of building glass products are represented: from thermal insulation glass to insulating glass with additional functions - noise, sun and burglary protection - as well as ornament and safety glass ( ESG / VSG ) to mirrors, all-glass doors or fire- resistant glass . But the industrial manufacturers of the so-called basic glass are also members.

More than 100 member companies with over 200 production sites and over 45 supporting members cover more than 90 percent of German flat glass production.

history

The association emerged in 1987 from a merger of three traditional individual associations. These were the “Fachverband Flachglas-denverdierenden Industry”, the “Bundesverband der Deutschen Isolierglasindustrie e. V. "and the" Bundesverband des Deutschen Flachglas-Großhandels e. V. "

tasks

The technical work of the association includes working groups such as “warm edge”, “safety glass” and “systems in the space between panes” as well as internal working groups.

The BF works closely with friendly associations in the window industry and the trades on other technical projects. In addition, the BF represents the interests of its member companies in national and international standardization committees.

At the political level, the BF accompanies the ordinance on energy saving. He advocates taking solar gains and summer heat protection into account. For future amendments to the EnEV, the association is developing models for an appropriate consideration of the free solar energy and daylight gains in order to continue to counteract a reduction in window areas through the ordinance. Right from the start, the association pleaded with politicians to switch to triple thermal insulation glass as the standard product of tomorrow.

The association is involved in various political initiatives that primarily advocate strengthening and improving the framework conditions for energy-efficient construction and renovation in the building sector, especially in existing buildings.

The public relations work of the BF informs end consumers and the trade press about products and services in the flat glass industry. To this end, the association creates press releases and brochures, a monthly newsletter and other information. The “Saving Energy with Glass” initiative promotes the replacement of obsolete glazing. As part of this initiative, the BF presents itself at trade fairs and information events; He also equips trade partner companies with information and advertising materials.

The association organizes symposia on current industry topics and offers online seminars as product training.

The BF performs all those tasks that the member companies are either unable to perform themselves (political lobbying) or where the bundling of activities in a superordinate, neutral institution has advantages (standard work, public relations).

Gütegemeinschaft Mehrplatten-Isolierglas e. V.

The quality association for multi-pane insulating glass (GMI), which is affiliated to the association, awards the RAL quality mark for high-quality insulating glass products to qualified member companies. A neutral external monitoring of production by recognized test institutes commissioned by GMI guarantees the special quality of the products of the more than 100 members.

"Energy saving with glass" initiative

With the nationwide initiative “Saving energy with glass”, the association would like to bring energy-efficient building renovation into the public eye. In addition, the association wants to draw attention to the replacement of outdated glazing such as uncoated insulating glass and single glass for energy-efficient thermal insulation glass, which is important in terms of environmental protection .
