Buonomini di San Martino

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Buonomini di San Martino (the Good Men of Saint Martin) are a Catholic lay brotherhood that was founded in the mid-15th century. Its seat is the church of San Martino del Vescovo in Florence .

“You mainly belonged to opponents of the Medici rule, who devoted themselves to poor relief, but also looked after political prisoners. Savonarola's appeals for donations and calls for voluntary poverty brought abundant funds to this brotherhood , which they distributed among the needy. But soon such a facility was no longer enough for Savonarola. "
