Bupaya Pagoda

Bupaya Pagoda

The Bupaya Pagoda ( Burmese ဗူး ဘုရား ; BGN / PCGN : bubuya) in Bagan is located high above the Ayeyarwady River and is therefore a popular tourist destination at sunset. It is one of the oldest stupas in Bagan and was probably built in the 9th century. The devastating earthquake of 1975 completely destroyed them; meanwhile, the pumpkin-shaped pagoda shines again with a golden sheen.
