Castle in the vineyard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The castle on the vineyard was a medieval castle near Meinersen in the Gifhorn district , of which no remains have survived. It was a predecessor of the Meinersen Castle, which was built later .

The castle stable of the facility is located south-west of the village around 200 meters from the main road in the Oker valley . The castle stood about 50 meters east of the river on a 50 × 50 meter elevation that is still around 1.7 meters high today.

The von Meinersen family , first mentioned in a document in 1147, sat in the castle . It received its domain directly as an imperial fief and was not subject to any prince or duke. In 1315 there was a dispute between those of Meinersen and Duke Otto der Strenge . He destroyed the castle in 1316 and added Meinersen to the Principality of Lüneburg .
