CL Polk

Chelsea L. Polk is an American romantic fantasy writer . Her first novel Witchmark was nominated in 2018 for the Nebula Award and the Lambda Award as best novel and for the Locus Award as best novel debut .

Polk started out as a short story writer that she posted on her blog. Then she participated in several episodes of the successful science fiction web series Shadow Unit .

In 2018 her first novel Witchmark was published , which is also the first volume of the Kingston Cycle . A second volume Greystar is announced for 2020. The main character is Miles Singer, who has returned from the war and works as a doctor in a hospital for veterans. He hides his magical talent, otherwise he risks being interned as a sorcerer or - worse still - becoming an instrument of his powerful sister for her and his family's interests. The world is reminiscent of an England of the post-Victorian era - in which, of course, magic works - and the war that destroys and cripples the soldiers involved both physically and mentally, of the catastrophe of the First World War. The novel won the World Fantasy Award in 2019 .

Polk lives in southern Alberta .
