CCMP

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CCMP or Counter-Mode / CBC-MAC Protocol is a security standard according to IEEE 802.11i that uses a combination of different cryptographic algorithms. The full name is Counter Mode with Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code Protocol .

CCMP is based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). A 128 bit long key with a 48 bit long initialization vector is used.

Components of CCMP

  • The CM (Counter Mode) component encrypts the data.
  • The CBC-MAC (Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code) assures the integrity and authentication of the data.

CCMP and RSN

Unlike WRAP ( Wireless Robust Authenticated Protocol ), CCMP stipulates that the RSN ( Robust Security Network ) standard must be used.
