CIVIVA is the Swiss civil service association. Since it was founded in 2010, the association has been committed to strengthening civilian service in Switzerland and to networking those who advocate it.

history

The association was founded on August 20, 2010 in Bern because there were more attacks on community service and various organizations wanted to get together to better lobby for community service. The politician Heiner Studer was involved in founding the association.

activities

CVIVA is politically independent and works to ensure that community service in Switzerland is maintained and strengthened. To this end, the association conducts public relations and political work. The association also organizes consultations and is the publisher of Le Monde Civil magazine .

The association has announced a referendum for 2020 on the planned revisions of the Civil Service Act, which are intended to make access to civil service more difficult in order to encourage more young people to join the military. The campaign “Save community service” was launched for this purpose.

The association has 100 collective members and around 1000 individual members. The member organizations include the advice center zivildienst.ch and the Association of Swiss Community Service Providers (GSZ). The association itself is a member of the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection .
