The Caesarea Amphitheater is an event venue in Caesarea Maritima , Israel . It is the oldest surviving Roman theater in the Eastern Mediterranean . The theater is used for concerts during the summer season and holds a total of 15,000 visitors. As the first international artist, Eric Clapton appeared on July 15 and 17, 1989 during his Journeyman World Tour in the area. This was followed by concerts by Chris Cornell and the group Foreigner .
