The Caproni Ca.114 was an Italian fighter aircraft .
History and construction
The Caproni Ca.114 was developed in 1933. The aim was to win the Regia Aeronautica tender for a new single-seat fighter aircraft . The single-handle double-decker was a composite construction. It had two wings of equal length , of which the upper one was offset a little forward. The fabric-covered wings had a double-spar structure, the fuselage consisted of tubular steel with fabric covering and metal panels.
The engine used was the Bristol Mercury radial engine with a Townend ring and a three-blade propeller. Although the Ca.114 was lighter than the competing Fiat CR.32 and accordingly had a higher rate of climb, it did not emerge as the winner of the competition.
Despite the defeat in the competition, several Ca. 114 manufactured for an export order from the Peruvian Air Force (Cuerpo de Auronautica del Peru).
