The Caproni Ca.313 was an Italian light reconnaissance and bombing aircraft .

development

The approx. 313 was developed under the direction of the designer Cesar Pallavacino. The existing airframe should be combined with powerful V-engines. The prototype of the Ca.313 consisted of the cell of a Ca.310 with Isotta-Fraschini motors Asso 120 IRCC 40.

The first flight took place on December 22, 1939. At this point in time, there were production orders from France with 200 pieces and Great Britain with 300 pieces. Another order from Sweden included a further 64 copies. Until Italy entered the war, only five of the Ca.313F variant were delivered to France. Regia Aeronautica was the buyer of all other models produced for the French and British orders .

commitment

The delivery of the Ca.313S to Sweden started in November 1940. The last of a total of 84 pieces were delivered in early 1941. The first copies with the designation Ca.313 RP.B.1 were Ca.311 with the engine of the Ca.313. Sweden used the aircraft as bombers, maritime patrols, torpedo bombers and as transport aircraft (designations B.16, S.16, T.16 and Tp.16S).

The aircraft of the version approx. 313R.PB2 had a tiered cockpit. 122 of these were made.

The German Reich ordered a total of 905 Ca. as a training and liaison aircraft . 313G . However, only very few copies of this order were produced, so that the total number of all approx. 313 271 copies.

Armament

The defensive armament consisted of three light machine guns of the caliber 7.7 mm, which were installed in a rotating turret on the upper side of the fuselage, a belly hatch on the lower side of the fuselage and in the left wing root. The ca.313 could carry a bomb load of up to 400 kg.
