Cat Stax is a placement and puzzle game in which a player has to solve tasks with a predetermined number of cat figures. It is based on a similar game principle as the classic tangram and other placement puzzles. The game was published in 2016 by the American games and toy publisher Brainwright and was published in Germany in 2018 by HUCH! hung up.

Equipment and style of play

The Cat Stax game material consists of 12 card figures as well as 44 task cards and a corresponding number of solution cards. The cats form so-called polyominos , i.e. areas or bodies that consist of several connected squares. The task cards are available in four levels of difficulty.

For the game the player chooses a task card and tries to solve it with the specified cats. The tasks are designed in such a way that each card shows the level of difficulty and the cat figures required to solve it. The task itself consists of a grid area that the cats must cover completely and without overhangs. In addition, the task as a three-dimensional puzzle can include up to five layers. Several solutions are possible for individual cards, but only one solution is given on the solution cards.

Editions and successors

Cat Stax was published in 2016 by the American publisher Brainwright and in 2018 by HUCH! hung up. In 2018, Dog Pile, a successor, was released in which, instead of cats, dog parts had to be put together to form predetermined areas.
