Cecilia Davies (politician)

Cecilia Davies (born before 1946) is a Gambian politician.

She belonged to the Aku ethnic group . Davies was one of the first women in Gambia to become involved in a political body. Together with Hannah Forster, she was the first woman to be elected to a Gambian legislature. The two prevailed in October 1946 in the Gambian capital in the elections for Bathurst Town Council (the predecessor of today's Banjul City Council ) in the district of Soldier Town Ward in the center of the city against eight male candidates.

A few years earlier, Hannah Mahoney , wife of the Gambian politician John Andrew Mahoney , was a member of the Bathurst Advisory Town Council , but she was nominated and not elected.
