Cee-lo

Cee-lo , also called C-Lo , See-Low or Four-Five-Six or 4-5-6 for short, is a dice game with three six-sided dice.

The game was brought to the USA by Chinese immigrants , so the name is derived from the Chinese: Sì-Wŭ-Liù ( Chinese  四 五六  - "4-5-6"). In China the game is called Sānliù Bàozi ( Chinese  三 六 豹子  - “3-6 dice”). The game is also known as Chinchirorin ( Japanese チ ン チ ロ リ ン ), which, however, describes the Japanese variant in a narrower sense.

In the USA it is a popular game in the ghettos , with any number of players betting and rolling the dice with money, chips or just for fun against a single player. However, it is often illegal to gamble for money. The game often takes place on street corners simply on the floor or on a piece of cardboard. You know this scene from many rap videos, from stars like 2Pac , Biggie Smalls , Jay-Z , Nas , Cam-ron and from various US ghetto films. Craps is also often played, but it can easily be mistaken for outsiders from afar. In the meantime, a commercial board game based on Cee-lo has even been launched.

Rules of the game

The game is played with three standard six-sided dice. The goal is to roll the best possible combination. A player nominates himself as the first "banker" and specifies an amount as the "bank". This requirement of z. B. 5 €, can be covered by the other players. At z. B. 2 players through bids of € 2 and € 3. However, it does not have to be covered. In this case, the “banker” takes the difference out to compensate. Now the “banker” rolls the 3 dice. In the combination 1-2-3, or a double - 1, he lost. His money goes to fellow players. The profit for each player is as much as was wagered by him. He can now play the bank again or pass the right on to his teammate on the left. However, if he rolls a 4-5-6, a double-6, or even a three of a kind, he wins the other's bets. If he throws a double - 2, 3, 4, or 5, this combination counts as a score. His teammates must now beat this number of points. Starting with the player to the left of the banker. All other throws are insignificant and you roll again until one of the combinations is hit. With 1-2-3, or a score below that of the "banker", you lose your bet. With 4-5-6, three of a kind, or a score above that of the “banker”, you win. If the same number of points is rolled, nothing happens and the player takes his bid back. The “banker” wins as much as is left in the bank at the end. However, if all players can beat the “banker”, the player to the left of the “banker” is the “banker” in the next round. But whoever wins with a 4-5-6 or three of a kind is next. If neither of these cases occurs, the “banker” remains “banker” as long as he wants.
