The Charentais is a variety of melon . It is a cultivated form of the original European cantaloupe melon ( Cucumis melo var. Cantalupensis ), which in turn is a variety of the sugar melon ( Cucumis melo ).

The fruit is about eight inches in diameter. The skin is light green with dark seams and smooth or even net, the pulp is orange.
In addition to the appearance, the Charentais differs from the American cantaloupe melon or the Australian variety Reticulatus (rock melon) primarily through a stronger smell and faster ripening.
The taste of the Charentais is melon fresh and medium sweet. The main growing area of the Charentais melon is France .
