Charles L. Moses

Charles Leavell Moses (born May 2, 1856 in Turin , Coweta County , Georgia , †  October 10, 1910 in Atlanta , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1897 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Moses attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1876 at Mercer University in Macon . Afterwards he was active in the school service and in agriculture. Charles Moses directed the Newnan Academy for Boys in Newnan for several years . In 1886 he gave up teaching and devoted himself intensively to agriculture. At that time he joined the Farmers' Alliance . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Over the years he has been a delegate to several Democratic National Conventions as well as several regional party conventions in Georgia.

In the congressional election of 1890 , Moses was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Thomas Wingfield Grimes on March 4, 1891 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1897 . From 1893 to 1895 he was chairman of the pension committee.

In the run-up to the elections in 1896 , Moses was not nominated by his party for another legislative term. In the following years he worked again in agriculture. Charles Moses died in Atlanta on October 10, 1910.
