China-EU School of Law

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The China-EU School of Law (CESL) at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) in Beijing is a joint project of the Chinese government and the European Union and is under the auspices of the Faculty of Law of the University of Hamburg by a consortium of 13 European and 3 Chinese universities and educational institutions. The task of the China-EU School of Law is to support the Chinese government in creating a society based on the rule of law . In contrast to the numerous joint programs between Chinese and European universities, which are mostly not very formalized, CESL is a cooperative educational institution. It is the first and only law school to be licensed by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a cooperation between a Chinese and a foreign university.

For international students, the law school offers an English-language Master of European and International Law (MEIL) as well as an English-language semester abroad on Chinese law (“Chinese Law Taught in English” - CLTE). Chinese students can earn a double master's degree by combining the Master of European and International Law with a Master of Chinese Law. The school also has an advanced training program for Chinese judges, prosecutors, and lawyers, as well as a Sino-European research program.
