Christian August von der Marwitz

Christian August von der Marwitz (* August 20, 1736 - October 30, 1800 ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Infantry Regiment No. 38 .

Life

His parents were the former Prussian captain Hans Georg von der Marwitz (* 1685, † after 1735) and his wife Ernestine Charlotte von Barfuss .

He came to the Prussian King Friedrich II on May 11, 1749 as a personal page . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Lobositz , Kolin and Liegnitz . During this time he was on March 3, 1757 ensign in the 1st Battalion of the Guard and on April 5, 1758 second lieutenant.

On November 25, 1763 he was still Premier-Lieutenant. On September 24, 1769 he was transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 43 as a captain and company commander . With this he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On June 4, 1782 he rose to major and was on January 6, 1790 commander of the regiment. On June 6, 1792 he became a colonel and on May 1, 1796 received Infantry Regiment No. 38 as chief. On June 2, 1798, he was then appointed major general. He died in this position on October 30, 1800.

In 1787 he received the order Pour le Mérite during the review near Liegnitz .

family

He was married to three women, one after the other, who were all sisters. In 1772 he married Bernhardine von Kessel (born September 23, 1734; † 1773), then Wilhelmine Amalie Gottliebe von Kessel (born May 26, 1741; † January 17, 1786) and lastly on September 22, 1788, Luise Erdmute von Kessel (1739 - April 10, 1800). His daughter Auguste Angelika (* 1772) married Christoph Sigismund von Kessel , Rittmeister in Hussar Regiment No. 1 (Gettkandt) on February 16, 1802 .
