The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary ( Irish Eaglais Chroí Mhuire gan Smál ) is a neo-Gothic church building on City Quay in Dublin , Ireland .

history

The church was built in 1861 and opened in 1863. The church building was designed by the architects John Bourke and JL Robinson.

The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was initially visited primarily by dock employees and merchants, but also by seafarers passing through. Therefore it is also known under the name Seaman's Church . It initially served as a branch church of St. Andrew's Church on Westland Road. Only since 1908 has the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary been an independent parish. In 1989 the parish was handed over to the Steyler Missionaries , a Roman Catholic religious order that is also known as the "Divine Word Missionaries" in English-speaking countries.

The church building, like the adjacent rectory, is a listed building (number: 1853 and 1854).
