Clear LCD

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clear LCD is a technique that improves the picture quality of LCD televisions. It was developed by the Philips company .

According to the manufacturer, two image quality criteria have been significantly improved:

  • Thanks to a response time of 3 ms, fast movements in the picture are displayed clearly and fluently.
  • the contrast values are improved, above all a deeper "black" is produced, which is particularly noticeable in dark scenes. A new backlight is partly responsible for the contrast improvement. This technique called "Scanning Backlight" can illuminate image areas in a targeted manner (dynamic contrast with a value of up to 7000: 1).

So far, all surfaces have been illuminated with the same brightness. LCD screens need to be backlit as the pixels themselves do not emit light (unlike plasma or cathode ray televisions)

Other manufacturers of LCD televisions also call this technology "flashing backlight".
