Collision Damage Waiver

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Collision Damage Waiver (German: waiver in case of accident damage), more often CDW , also Loss Damage Waiver or LDW , is an agreement in which the renter of motor vehicles waives their right to demand compensation from the renter in the event of damage. Landlords can offer such waiver agreements independently without involving an insurance company .

Usually the agreed waiver is only a partial waiver in the sense that a deductible applies which the tenant has to bear; only the amount in excess of this is taken over by the CDW. Full CDWs (where the deductible is reduced to zero) are offered under names like Super-CDW .

A CDW only covers damage caused by accidents (except accidents involving wildlife ). Damage to tires, glass, exterior mirrors, underbody, interior, roof and engine, towing costs, administration fees and theft are not excluded.
