The Colorado Desert ( English : Colorado Desert ) is part of the Sonoran Desert and extends from the southeastern part of the US state of California over the border to Mexico .

The approximately 40,000 km² large desert is located in a valley that extends from the San Bernardino Mountains to the Colorado River . Part of the Colorado desert lies in a depression below sea level, at the deepest point of which the Salton Sea extends .

California's Anza Borrego Desert State Park and the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument are in the Colorado Desert . The Joshua Tree National Park is located in the north of the region in transition to a subsequent, higher Mojave Desert .
