from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CONSORT ( Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials ) is a guideline for the presentation of randomized trials. It comprises 21 points. The previous guideline SORT (Standards of Reporting Trials) comprised 32 points, but was criticized for its rigidity, which made the articles based on the guideline difficult to read. The lack of recording of the external validity by SORT was also criticized . The guideline was further developed into the CONSORT guideline. CONSORT has been criticized for its strong focus on randomized trials and the lack of evaluation of the primary data sources. Nevertheless, the guideline is widely recognized. CONSORT is supported by 600 journals and has been cited 8,000 times since 1996.
