Controlled and Harmonized Aeronautical Information Network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CHAIN (Abbreviation for Controlled and Harmonized Aeronautical Information Network ) is a concept developed by EUROCONTROL to increase the data quality, integrity, accuracy and interoperability of aeronautical data in the form of a digital data chain that goes from the creation of the data to its publication of aeronautical information. The process of aeronautical data processing should therefore run completely digitally, media breaks within the processes are avoided.

Using CHAIN, regulators of aeronautical information and service providers (ANSPs) are to be supported in the implementation and maintenance of traceable, controlled and auditable processes while complying with the requirements of ICAO Annex 15 ( Air Traffic Information Services ) for data quality with a focus on data integrity.

The area of CHAIN covers flight critical and essential aeronautical navigation data (e.g. coordinates and heights of runway thresholds) according to ICAO Annex 15 supported by the industry standards EUROCAE ED-76 and ED-77.

The document family CHAIN is currently recommended.
