Cool It Now is a song by New Edition from the year 1984 . It appeared on their second album, New Edition .
background
When the group got a recording deal with MCA Records in 1984 , Vincent Brantley and Rick Timas wrote the title Cool It Now . A lot of money was spent producing the song, and Cool It Now was more expensive to produce than the group's entire debut album. Eventually Vincent Brantley and Rick Timas also produced the title, and the group's fans grew. After its release on August 27, 1984, the song became their first top ten hit in the United States , and after a few weeks they even reached the top four on the Billboard Hot 100 , while Cool It Now became a number one hit in the United States R&B charts (her second overall). Later releases of the group could not build on the success of Cool It Now , so the song is their greatest success to this day.
The song was also known at the time through the rap passages of singer Ralph Tresvant . In the song he raps the names of the group members: "Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, and Mike." Many years later, the name "Johnny" was added.
