Court of Husting

The Court of Husting is believed to be the oldest court in the City of London . The court's duties originally comprised administrative issues that were later taken over by the Court of Aldermen. The Court of Husting is first mentioned in the 10th century. The term “husting” itself goes back to the Old Norse and is made up of “hus” (house) and “ thing ” (assembly). Hustings were generally assemblies convened by administrators in medieval England.
